WHATEVER we are conscious of constitutes our present sense of existence. Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly," implying not that life is that which physicists may call "the vital spark" within a material body, but that it is a spiritual possession which one may lay hold of in abundance.

IN ancient days gates were of much importance to the safety and welfare of the people. Many eastern cities were surrounded with walls, and were entered by means of strong gates.

Although he is, perhaps, the most prominent example of a disobedient prophet in the prophetic books, his penitence and subsequent awakening are a beneficent example, a precious help, and a blessed guide to the loyal strugglers for the goal of righteousness,—and this because his experiences reveal the divine order of the purifying and molding processes and changes which become operative in thought as the spiritual idea enters and unfolds into manifestation.

THOSE church meetings which manifest true spiritual activity and cooperative unity present no especial problems to be solved; but there are other meetings which, although not so numerous, are still found at times in every active field, and which sometimes seem disturbing to the newcomer. The new member is apt to think that all church meetings will be feasts of joyous, loving unity.

THERE is, perhaps, no craving of the human heart more insistent than the desire for a faithful, understanding friend, one to whom one may turn in an emergency or in a dark hour, sure of the loving sympathy which will not condemn, but will uplift and sustain. However, because this desire for friendship is so often based on a sense of human personality and a selfish desire to get rather than to give, there are few who do not meet with disillusionment and disappointment.
