Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

"CHERISH HUMILITY"

JEREMY TAYLOR makes a strong and vigorous comparison when he likens humility to "a tree whose root, when it sets deepest in the earth, rises higher, and spreads fairer, and stands surer, and lasts longer, and every step of its descent is like a rib of iron. " Was there ever a time when the "rib of iron" was needed more in world affairs and in individual life than in this age of unrest and of changing conditions? In the struggle between capital and labor, between selfish interests and one's duty to one's fellow-men, how seldom humility seems to be thought of as the "rib of iron" which is needed to make the world a unit of power and strength, towering upward and heavenward in lofty ideals! Equally as bold and forceful is the statement made by King Solomon, "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life,"—three most desirable things from the human standpoint, yet how rarely sought in the pathway of humility! In fact, humility generally has seemed to hold an inferior place in the esteem of the world's great potentates.

THE FIRST COMMANDMENT

Referring to the First Commandment, which she calls her "favorite text," Mrs. Eddy, on page 340 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," states: "The divine Principle of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal.

THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

Man's unity with God is a fact, but a fact which each must prove for himself. Spiritually discerned, man is the full reflection of God.

INDIVIDUAL SALVATION

THE Christ, revealed to-day by Christian Science, is fulfilling its mission as the Saviour of the world. It comes to seek and save that which, to human sense, was lost; and those who have felt its healing touch are echoing the words of the prophet, "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

HEALTH

MANKIND has long sought health in every direction and by every means conceivable to the so-called human mind. Nothing has been too unpleasant to take inwardly; nothing has been too painful to endure in the ever changing field of surgery; and no deprivation has seemed too great for men to accept as the road to health.

THE LARGER VIEW

WHATEVER we are conscious of constitutes our present sense of existence. Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly," implying not that life is that which physicists may call "the vital spark" within a material body, but that it is a spiritual possession which one may lay hold of in abundance.

TURNING THE BATTLE

IN ancient days gates were of much importance to the safety and welfare of the people. Many eastern cities were surrounded with walls, and were entered by means of strong gates.

"THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD"

THE Psalmist sang, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so;" and the prophet Isaiah declared, "The ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. " Among the definitions given in Webster's dictionary for the word "testimony," two read as follows: "Witness;" "A solemn declaration or affirmation made to establish or prove some fact.

"A MAN GREATLY BELOVED"

ABOVE my desk hangs the familiar picture of Daniel in the den of lions. This one is unframed, a small print mounted upon a piece of cardboard; and below the picture is written, "A Man Greatly Beloved.

TRUE WORTH

EVERY right thinking person desires truth rather than error. The important thing, therefore, in our daily living is to learn to discriminate between the true and the false, the real and the unreal.
