The first priest mentioned in the Bible was Melchizedek, the king of Salem; and all that the Old Testament records of him is found in four verses, three in Genesis and one in Psalms. Like many another Scriptural metaphor, the symbol of the rock contains opposite illustrations, according to whether the spiritual or the material standpoint is exemplified.

All revelation of God good, has come to humanity in the form of spiritual law. This is the "voice of the Lord" speaking to the human heart throughout the cycles of time; hence the requirement of absolute obedience thereto.
