IN depicting the rise and growth of a church whose marvelous advance is unique even among the wonders of modern progress, it is impossible to do more than touch upon its salient features, though Mrs. Eddy has epitomized the Christian Science movement in her spiritual definition of "Church," as given in the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p.
IT is sometimes asked why, if the life and teachings of Christ Jesus were divinely inspired and were intended to show to mortals the way of salvation and to bring about the regeneration of mankind, the path which he indicated should have been missed and primitive Christianity have floundered into the bog of misunderstanding so comparatively soon after the termination of the Way-shower's earthly career. Why was this seeming failure permitted; why was the beacon-light allowed to become obscured to a degree which, although not amounting to actual extinction, nevertheless occasioned a dimness which served to accentuate rather than to illumine the all-pervading gloom? The answer to the foregoing question is suggested by a word in the question itself.
IN the account of Jesus' life as given in the four gospels, we often read that when a season of trial confronted him, he ascended up into a mountain and there engaged in communion with the Father. STUDENTS of Christian Science would do well to heed the warning contained in our Master's words to his disciples: "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. " Often when inquirers come, desiring to know more of the teachings of Christian Science, they are confused and frightened by some unwise remarks made by those who are well acquainted with the letter of Science, but who have not sufficiently imbibed the spirit of love and wisdom to know just how much the beginner is able to bear.
