TO learn how to pray aright is to learn the secret of all Christian success. The problems of evil—sin, disease, sorrow, misfortune, and want—confront mortals at every turn, and their right solution, which will enable men to erase these conditions from consciousness, involves the true understanding and practice of prayer, not as a blind hope nor as the homage of superstitious fear, but as the application of the Christ-truth in correcting human error.

How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? — John , 7:15. AT the time Jesus the Christ was teaching the way of life, "letters," that is, the books of the Law and of the Prophets, accompanied by explanations and amplifications of the text, were the summary of learning among the Jews.
As the sunlight penetrates every nook and corner where an entrance is found possible, casting out the darkness and all the creatures of darkness, so the light of Truth and Love enters human consciousness, casting out the darkness of ignorance, superstition, and false educated belief, and saving humanity from everything unlike God. If the sunlight enters not the hidden chamber, it is because no entrance thereto is found.
The teaching of Christian Science that matter is unreal and pain and suffering mere illusions, meets with opposition and incredulity from those to whose mortal sense matter is obviously real, and to whom pain and suffering are so manifest. Christian Scientists are, therefore, constantly called upon to defend their belief in the unreality of matter and its consequent evils, sin, disease, and death, and to explain what is meant in this connection by the claim of its unreality.
IN every age the worth of some man is recognized by his peers and he is acknowledged to be truly great. The masses are apt to idealize this man, and when one who has admired him afar off comes to meet him face to face, it frequently happens that disappointment is expressed because the great man is so simple and quiet.
