CHRISTIAN SCIENCE AND THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

THE English language has been made the channel through which the statement of Christian Science has been given to the world, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. In this volume the author recognizes that, "like all other languages, English is inadequate to the expression of spiritual conceptions and propositions, through the use of material terms" (Science and Health, p. 349), yet, as Truth's scribe, she has been enabled to so express the "new tongue" that thousands are finding it to be a living word, effective in works. In so far as it is understood, it heals sickness and destroys the belief in sin and death.
