The following letter to the Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy sets forth in a striking manner the far-sighted vision of the Leader of the Christian Science denomination in matters economic as well as spiritual: —
Chicago, 111., February 2, 1906.
Beloved Leader: — The world may not acknowledge your work for the redemption of mankind, seeing it not. Nevertheless, humanity receives the blessing.
The recent uncovering of the evils that menace the welfare of individuals and nations was pointed out in your Message of 1902 on page 7, as follows: —
"Competition in commerce, deceit in councils, dishonor in nations, dishonesty in trusts, begin with: 'Who shall be greatest?'" And do you not plainly provide the remedy on page 4 of the same message?
"To live and let live, without clamor for distinction or recognition: to wait on divine Love; to write truth first on the tablet of one's own heart,—this is the sanity and perfection of living, and my human ideal."
