
Testimonies of Healing
Last summer after church, I went out to our backyard to set up a sprinkler on the lawn. I was headed back to the house, when a board that was lying on the ground caught the hem of my pants, throwing me face first onto the concrete.
For many years I suffered from allergies. I lived near a lake with trees and flowers that sent me into a tailspin each new “allergy season”—which is what I had long since convinced myself the season was called, as my father had also suffered throughout the spring with allergies.
I was introduced to Christian Science when I was in middle school. At that time, I suffered from nosebleeds whenever I stayed in direct sunlight too long, or when the day was particularly hot.
On Super Bowl Sunday early last year, as I was entering church for the service, I tripped on the icy sidewalk and fell heavily, landing full-force on my face. I had no time to brace myself for the fall—in fact, I hadn’t even felt the sensation of falling—and heard a loud crunching sound in my head.
I awoke one morning a year and a half ago with pain in my tooth. Thoughts of needing a root canal came, and though I tried not to let them worry me, with every passing hour the tooth became more painful.
One day several years ago I noticed a small bump on my shoulder. I was very worried about it, and I called my Christian Science teacher to pray with me.
My teenage daughter, Ella, and I had just headed out to go skiing together. But she quickly spotted a friend on the slopes, skied ahead to meet him, and then they were off! I tried to keep up, but she and her friend got on the chairlift ahead of me.
One autumn day two years ago I was rushing to clear the gutters of our house of leaves before the sun went down and a rain storm started. I was almost finished when I turned to climb down the ladder and found myself sitting on the cold ground and hearing someone say aloud, “I am God’s child.
This author had exhausted all options to quit alcohol. But, she found complete and permanent healing when she began to understand her spiritual identity through studying Christian Science.
One afternoon this past winter, I was working at my office and started feeling slightly ill. It was a busy day and I didn’t have much time to think about it, so I plugged along for the remainder of the day.
