UNIVERSAL SALVATION

From the October 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Certainly, no earnest student of Christian Science could overlook his individual responsibility to think correctly about world affairs today. Salvation is individual. Everyone must save himself from the warlike beliefs of aggression, hatred, fear, selfishness, and infidelity if he is to do his part in establishing peace and brotherly love throughout the world.

Universal salvation is a natural outcome of individual salvation, and will be made manifest on earth when love for good reigns in men's hearts. Everyone, no matter where he is, can aid in bringing about world peace if he will acquaint himself with God, acknowledge man's real and everlasting relationship to Him, and see the real and indestructible universe in God's image and likeness. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 291), "Universal salvation rests on progression and probation, and is unattainable without them." Human thought must progress Spiritward. Christians must prove by practice and demonstration the healing power and presence of Truth. Only by dropping the earthly, mortal, material concepts and uplifting thought into the sphere of true holiness can one hope to benefit himself, and thereby help the human race.

It is of the nature of error to magnify itself. It would appear powerful and very complicated. It would claim to be impenetrable and immune to the efforts of individual right thinking to destroy it. Let us not be deceived. The same law which is present to heal error in our individual thought and experience is present and available to destroy any claim of error. No problem is too involved to be annulled by God's law. Nothing is out of reach of the power of the one divine Mind to heal. Truth destroys that which is not true.
