FAITHFULNESS OVER FOUNDATIONAL TRUSTS

From the February 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Writing to the Superintendent and teachers of The Mother Church Sunday School, Mary Baker Eddy says (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 230), "It is a joy to know that they who are faithful over foundational trusts, such as the Christian education of the dear children, will reap the reward of rightness, rise in the scale of being, and realize at last their Master's promise, 'And they shall be all taught of God.'" One may infer from this statement that the various functions of The Mother Church as outlined in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy are foundational trusts and that faithfulness in supporting, promoting, protecting, and extending these trusts operates to bless the individual and to enlighten, bless, and heal mankind.

Christ Jesus gave to his followers certain foundational trusts. He said (Mark 16:15), "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." He further told them to heal the sick. The early Christians accepted their religion as effective in overcoming sin, disease, and death. The majority of present-day religions place emphasis on preaching the gospel to the end of saving from sin. Christian Science accepts the undivided garment of the Christ, including the foundational trust of healing the sick.

The reinstatement of the lost element of healing in Christianity through Christian Science is a great blessing to this age. Christian Science ensures as a permanent dispensation for mankind the healing of all manner of discord through spiritual means. To further this great end, Christian Scientists accept the duties and privileges of working faithfully in the movement which Mrs. Eddy founded as the result of spiritual inspiration. Steadfast support of each of its functions hastens the unfoldment of Christian Science in the heart of the individual and in the spiritual growth of mankind.
