I have often wanted to express through the periodicals my heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for discovering and giving to the world Christian Science, the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus. Because of my upbringing in this Science, I have been wonderfully protected from sickness and accidents.
I was twelve years old when my mother became a student of Science and taught my sister and me to use it. We learned by heart most of the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal. I am very glad we did, because they have been of great comfort in times of stress and have often brought just the angel message that was needed to solve a problem. When the truth of Christian Science first enlightened my thought, I was healed of constipation of long standing. Later, when ill with influenza I had treatment from a Christian Science practitioner and was well in about two days. The Bible passage (Acts 17:28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being," helped me to overcome lumbago. Also of help was Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 361), "As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being."
Severe headaches, burns, toothache, colds, and a badly sprained foot have been healed. Lost articles have been found when I have realized that every useful idea is always in its right place in the orderly universe of Mind. A purse containing a considerable sum of money was returned intact when I declared that honesty is a quality possessed by all of God's children.
