The name Christian Science, which Mrs. Eddy gave to her revelation, is logical and inevitable. It is Science because it is demonstrable truth and is demonstrating the truth of its claims. It is Christian because its practice is in accord with the words and works of Christ Jesus, the master Christian.
Jesus, who never heard the terms Christian or Christian Science, practiced beyond all others the spirit of divine Love, God, which is its prime essential. A study of the Bible fully reveals that he was the Way-shower in this Science. It was Mrs. Eddy's spirituality that enabled her to discover the divine Principle of Jesus' works and to give its rules to the world in Science and Health and her other writings. She established her Church through her understanding of this Principle, God. In the textbook she writes of the Master, "His proof of Christianity was no form or system of religion and worship, but Christian Science, working out the harmony of Life and Love."Science and Health, p. 26;
Jesus demonstrated Truth's efficacy in destroying sin, healing sickness, and raising the dead. He was fully aware of the legacy he was leaving when he told his disciples, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."John 14:26; The Comforter is the Science of Truth, the revelation of the Christ, which Jesus knew would come in its fullness at a later time. The Jews challenged Jesus' Messiahship, asking, "Art thou greater than our father Abraham?" To which the Master responded, "Before Abraham was, I am."8:53, 58;
