This series gives firsthand accounts of how a number of successful Christian Science Sunday School teachers approach their assignments. It will appear in those issues of the Journal not containing the quarterly "Sunday School" column.

"How I teach my Sunday School class"

From the October 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In teaching any Sunday School class, I like to think of these young ones in terms of Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 37 of Science and Health: "It is possible,—yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman,—to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness."

To me, this statement hits at the heart of the so-called generation gap; it liberates the sexes. All can heal. Young people may not respond to the demands of duty, but they do respond to privileges.

Each step toward following Jesus' words and works, no matter how insignificant, can lead to a sense of unity in class. With this thought clearly in mind, I find there is nothing that can rob us of our growth together each Sunday.
