Wholehearted support for those who have been elected

From the November 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When democratic elections are over, questions may arise as to how we can best support those elected. And especially we may long to have a clear perspective on the situation if our candidate didn't win!

The spiritual understanding afforded by Christian Science shows us that there is a way to give wholehearted support, whether or not we voted for a particular person. Christian Science enables us to see with joy and peace the nature of true government and so to be a wonderful, practical support to those in public positions.

All true government proceeds from God, divine Mind. We support the office that the elected official holds when we know that the qualities of true Christliness necessary to the performance of that office—such as integrity, wisdom, good judgment—are ever present because God, infinite good, is ever present. The real man—an idea of Mind—naturally expresses those Christly qualities. He is perfect, incorruptible, spiritual. In this sense, he is much grander than the limited concept of man as a finite being.
