Put prayer first

From the March 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Pen poised, words whirling—
tumbling like dominoes,
landing askew.
A pair here. A mismatch there.

Pen points, presses paper.
Words, like a child's footprints,
wobble across the whiteness.
Going where? Dead end!

Worn eraser rubs
away mind's missteps.
Begin again! But how?

This time, prayer put first,
God's omniscience declared:
vain ramblings reversed,
by His pen, His Word.

Self-will yields;
Christly peace descends.
Creativity unfolds as
divine Mind amends.

Phrases coalesce. Sentences
slide smoothly into place.
A perfect wholeness encompasses
paper, prayer, and pen!
