Celebrating Mother

- Practice, Practice, Practice

Mother and I were a great team. Whether we were confronting challenges small or large, we went about our days with Christian Science to rely on. Daily prayer, study, and inspiration gave the right answers, and we both saw limitations fall away.

Mother spent over 40 years in Christian Science. When she joined the local Christian Science church, she had some reservations about different church positions because she’d never finished elementary school as a child. She was still a very active church member. Through the years, she thought she would never be able to teach Sunday School or be a Reader. I am glad I was able to help encourage her. She did become a Sunday School teacher. I helped by preparing sample lessons. And, at another point, she became Second Reader. She and I read the Sunday service together for the congregation for years. One Sunday, when my mother was 80 years old, while we were reading the service, she took off the reading glasses she had worn for years and read without them. She never used them again for reading.

Another time, Mother and I were enjoying a day at the beach. I brought along a copy of The Christian Science Journal. Well, every article I read told how divine Truth blessed one person and then how it went on and blessed others.
