Gloves, scarves, and similar articles sometimes come with the label, “Fits all sizes.” That can be quite useful, especially if buying a gift for someone whose exact size is not known. But have you ever thought about how God’s love fits each of us perfectly? Love is certainly manifested in countless ways—love of family members, acquaintances, neighbors. And all of these aspects are actually varied expressions of the one and only true source of love—divine Love, God.
No matter if our problems are big or small, infinite Love, God, perfectly cares for all of His creation. This fact was beautifully illustrated in the life of Christ Jesus. Whatever situation he faced, Jesus brought a pure understanding of God’s love, and with this Christly love, he healed the sick, reformed sinners, calmed storms, raised the dead, and taught his disciples to do the same. Mary Baker Eddy identified the divine Science at work in Jesus’ healing and teaching, recognizing that the laws of divine Love are universally applicable. She explained, “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 494).
Recently I experienced a small, but encouraging proof of these facts. A few weeks ago, a couple of my friends and I set out on a day trip from our town in England to northern France. As we prepared to depart, we were told our train was cancelled and we would have to wait for over three hours for the next one. Losing that much time could have spoiled the whole trip, and I was irritated that my carefully planned activities were threatened. Then I remembered an idea I had been cherishing for a little while: Love forms the perfect concept. This is from a sentence in Science and Health that reads, “Wait patiently for divine Love to … form the perfect concept” (p. 454).
