Never too old

- Practice, Practice, Practice

I’ve been in the business of advising clients on investments and finances for over 35 years. I’ve been a student of Christian Science even longer, having taken Christian Science class instruction over 45 years ago. Class instruction is a course in how to pray effectively, how to heal, and it’s the foundation for anyone who aspires to be a professional Christian Science practitioner.

My Christian Science teacher left a successful career as a banking executive to go into the full-time practice of Christian Science. At one point, I told my teacher I’d let him down by following a career in business, not having entered the public practice of Christian Science as he did.

He knew me well, and he reminded me very gently that while I might not be advertising as a practitioner, I was actively practicing Christian Science on a daily basis. He pointed out that I had many years ahead of me to begin a new career in the Christian Science practice and that I could always do so. He said if I continued to find business fulfilling, I could still have a career as a financial adviser and afterward have a career as a practitioner. I tucked this thought away. Today, I continue with both my business career as well as my daily practice of Christian Science—praying for myself, the world, and any condition that calls to me for prayerful attention.
