No idea unseen

- Practice, Practice, Practice

I recall a lovely healing experience I had with my son and daughter and a friend when they were all in their teens. We were walking on a long, sandy beach on a beautiful sunny day. My son and I went on ahead, deep in conversation, and after a while we realized that my daughter and her friend were way behind us. We looked back and waved, and waited for them to catch up. It turned out they had sat down on the sand to enjoy the sun and sea. My daughter had pulled her sweatshirt off over her head, and, as she did so, one of her little silver earrings fell out onto the sand, and they couldn’t find it. She was distressed because these earrings had been a special gift, and they had been a while hunting for it.

When they caught up with us, we were all a long way past the place where it had happened. I looked back at this mile-long beach of soft, dry sand with no identifying marks at all—not even footprints remained to show where anyone had been. It flashed across my thought that it would be impossible to find something so tiny in this huge area. But just as quickly I put that out of thought. I asked them to take us as near as possible to where they thought they had been.

The four of us stood a little apart from each other, and I know we were all praying. As I stood there, I wasn’t looking for an earring; I was listening for what divine Mind was revealing to me about the truth of the situation. Gently came the sense of how infinitely precious every idea is, “… from the infinitesimal to the infinite,” as Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 336). I saw this included every individual anywhere in the world, every right angel message in thought, and the fact that no one and nothing could ever be unseen by ever-present Love. I also realized that something which was a gift of love could never be lost. It was a moment of revelation quite out of the time and place we seemed to be in.
