No lapse from harmony

- Practice, Practice, Practice

Christian Science teaches us to better understand our relationship with God, and when we continually acknowledge our sonship with our Father-Mother God and see ourselves as His-Her perfect children, we come to see that we are continuously residing in the realm of harmony. As we fill our thoughts with God’s love and goodness, we recognize the unreality of whatever seems to disturb that harmony. And healing is the result.

The new watering system installed in our garden two years ago is a good example of how this understanding brings healing. Despite continual adjustments, the watering system never operated properly. Contact with the factory failed to resolve the issue. Wiring was checked time and again, voltages were within tolerances, programming was checked again and again, but the system was still unreliable.

After this had been going on for some weeks, frustration set in, and I began to lose sight of the harmony I had been claiming in prayer. However, after deeper thought, I realized that an inanimate object, such as a watering system, represents a spiritual idea that is actually in divine Mind and cannot really be controlled by mortal thought. That insight caused me to reexamine what was transpiring here, and I began to realize that the system didn’t need to be adjusted, but my thinking did.
