World peace—it's possible!

- Practice, Practice, Practice

When considering the hope of world peace, it’s easy to be cynical. It’s easy to see world peace as an unachievable ambition. We all see the news of wars and discord. Even in our local communities, we are bombarded with information about how discord is ruling the lives of ordinary people. It would appear that peace is not only improbable but impossible. What can we do to help?

As a lifelong student of Christian Science, I have always believed that any problem is solvable through prayer. It may take time—in fact, it may take a long time—but the solution is always attainable. Just so, world peace is attainable. Yet, attaining it may take more thorough and careful consideration than other issues seem to require.

When one considers God’s creation, as explained in the Bible in the first chapter of Genesis, there is no provision for conflict. The world is at peace. When and how did this change? In reality, it didn’t. Man was, and still is, made in the image and likeness of God. That image and likeness is not full of discord; it is full of peace. If every man, woman, and child understood their true spiritual heritage as created by God, they would feel no discord. Every person would be at peace. The whole world would be at peace.
