I love this Bible verse, “A man’s gift maketh room for him …” (Proverbs 18:16). Divine Love, God, has given each of us specific talents, and rightly places us where we can express our talents in the best possible way, thus glorifying Him.
When I was a young wife and mother, both my husband and I found ourselves out of work. During this difficult time, I started going back to church because I knew it was the right place for me—it would help me figure things out. I’d attended a Christian Science Sunday School growing up, and though I stopped going to church in my teens, I’d always remembered a wonderful healing I had of a severe earache. The impact of that healing experience never left me. And I remembered how I always felt God’s loving presence when I was in Sunday School.
One day, during this time of unemployment, my husband noticed an ad in the newspaper for a job opening. A nearby health club was seeking a fitness instructor. My husband thought the position would be perfect for me. At first, I didn’t agree. My skills and background were in dance, and I wanted to fulfill my dream of being a dance teacher. But my husband persisted, so I finally applied. I knew from my reignited study of Christian Science that when God gives us a talent, He gives us the direction and opportunity to bless others with it. The health club called me in for an interview the following week.
