HINT TO THE CLERGY

At the residence of Mr. R———, of Arlington, a happy concourse of friends had gathered to celebrate the eighty-second birthday of his mother. Among others were an Orthodox clergyman, his wife and child. During the evening the conversation drifted to the seventh modern wonder—Christian Science, when the old lady, who had drank at its fount, quietly bore her testimony to the power of Truth to redeem man's body from under the curse of sin. Not long after this conversation, the son was taken violently ill. Then was his father's opportunity to demand proof of the Christian Scientist, and he said to her, If you can heal my son, when seeing I may believe. The old lady then rose, and took her seat beside the sofa where the lad lay, with burning brow, moaning in pain; and looking away from the material to the spiritual sense of being, she silently, through Divine power, healed him. Immediately the deep red had faded from his face, a cool perspiration spread over it, and he was in a deep sleep. When he awoke in the course of an hour and wanted something to eat, the parents said, Wait until you go home, and then you shall have some light food or gruel. But the old lady said, give the child what he wants to eat, and doubt not that the Father of all will care for him. And the unbiased boy and the aged Christian carried the question on the side of God; so, after eating several ice creams, the clergyman's son returned home well.
