The Recent Festival

From the October 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A musical festival was held at the residence of Mrs. M. A. Batchelder, C. S. B., Boston Highlands, Friday evening, Sept. 18th. The object of the festival was to promote acquaintance and to raise funds for the church edifice. Mr. and Mrs. Batchelder had transformed one of the buildings on their beautiful grounds into a temporary hall, which was gracefully festooned with flags, bunting and green vines. The effect was charmingly heightened by bright bouquets. The Arm of A. F. Rogers & Co. kindly furnished the piano. The reading and music were rendered by artists who gave their services. To Miss Fannie Batchelder the guests were largely indebted for the musical arrangement. Mrs. Robie and Mr. Gardner, and other talent, added to the enjoyment of the evening with solos and duets. The readings by Mrs. G. E. Stetson, C. S.B., and Mr. Willis, were greatly enjoyed. A collation of cake, ice cream and coffee was served. At the close, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr. and Mrs. Batchelder for their generous hospitality, and to the artists for the evening's entertainment. A heavy shower did not seem to mar any one's pleasure. Much regret was expressed over the absence of Rev. Mrs. Eddy, who was unavoidably detained by a business appointment at the College.
