"And ye shall know the Truth,
And the Truth shall make you free."
We hear the inquiry, What will Christian Science do in case of accident? the theory sounds well, but the application is what I want. Well, if the belief of pitching headfirst down a steep flight of stairs will serve for the accident, I will furnish proof in my own experience.
On Sunday, Sept. 19th, 1886, about 11 o'clock in the morning, a lady called to see me. I had just gone to my room, when my son spoke to me at the foot of the stairs. Stepping quickly to the stairway to go down, my boot-heel caught on the upper step and threw me forward. He started back to catch me, and as the result, both went down together in a heap, which brought the elder son to the help, who succeeded in getting me up into a chair, and then assisting his brother to rise. Belief said, we were badly bruised; but Understanding was our remedy then and there, Christ, the ever-present, Omnipotent Truth; and gathering thought into the blessed, conscious realization of this fact, unmindful of self, I turned to meet the want for my child, who appeared to belief the more disabled, and also to destroy the fear which had blanched the face of his brother. "Is there Balm in Gilead?" In less than ten minutes he declared, "I am all right, mother;" and I was the same, and met the caller as usual.
