My little boy, eleven years of age, dedicated his new axe by splitting his foot, the forward end of the blade going very nearly through the skin on the under side. It bled much and fast. When he saw it he had fainting feelings, and at a remark from his little sister, "O, dear! I'm afraid you'll bleed to death," he had strong symptoms of spasms. But in a very few minutes all fear was allayed, and in twelve days was entirely healed, without swelling, pain, inflammation or suppuration. The gash was two and one-half inches in length.
