The question concerning an Original Living Force is intimately connected with the origin of our conscious existence, and with the question, How can mental and spiritual existences be connected with physical systems? Here is a region in which reason and philosophy must take the place of physical demonstrations; for, notwithstanding all claims to the contrary, there are no physical demonstrations on this point.
