I became interested in Christian Science some twelve years ago, through experiencing the healing power of the Christ-truth in destroying for me internal troubles which had baffled the physicians for three years. I soon began to investigate the teaching, read the text-book and other literature by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and received class instruction. This study revealed to me the one and only God, of whose presence in time of need I had never known before.
Since accepting Christian Science I have had many experiences in which God's protecting love was manifested; one especially I wish to mention which occurred several months ago. As was our usual custom on Sunday morning, my husband and I started to drive five miles to attend Sunday School and church service at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Riverside, Cal. When within one mile of town our horse became frightened, throwing us out and overturning the carriage. I felt as though I had been thrown through the air, then all was dark, with a sense of helplessness from any material aid, but with a consciousness of perfect reliance upon God. Then there was apparently a moment or two of unconsciousness. When I awakened I was standing by the side of the road, and saw every surrounding object, just as one sees a picture, and I felt the blood streaming from my face. I have no remembrance of any further though of my surroundings or material condition, but the words of truth came immediately as though spoken, telling me that there is no life in blood. The flow stopped instantly, and unconscious of my movement I turned and walked several steps down the street. The next thought that came to me was of the eternal omnipresent consciousness of God. Then I realized that my life had been saved through the Christ-truth as taught in Christian Science. I felt as if I had gone through the open door and stepped back again into the world.
Only those who have had a similar experience can comprehend the grandeur of that moment when I realized the absolute power of Truth.
