It is over two years since I began Christian Science...

From the July 1903 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is over two years since I began Christian Science treatment. I had then been nine months in England on sick leave from India, and had shortly before been told by a medical board that I had "organic disease of the liver," and that I ought to go to Hamburg or some such place for treatment. I had been in the habit of taking medicine sometimes allopathic, sometimes homœopathic, almost continuously for over six years for liver trouble and dyspepsia. I was treated by a Christian Science practitioner for nearly seven months, and at the end of that time I had to go before another medical board who examanied me and said my liver was normal. I have taken no medicine of any kind since.

I began Christian Science treatment in February, 1901, and I have since enjoyed better health than I had, previously, for years. I have not always felt perfectly well, but I have, on the other hand, always been able to get over the dis-ease through Christian Science. I had several other complaints, among them a weak back from strains. When I went home I could scarcely lift a bicycle. When I came out again to the East I lifted heavy boxes and can do so now. I had no treatment for the back but Christian Science, and I had previously been laid up several times with a strained back.

About a month before our child was born, my mother-in-law, making a seeming mistake, asked a Christian Science practitioner to begin treating my wife. We were then in India. I also telegraphed for treatment for her. After this the doctor told me he feared it was impossible for the child to be born without an operation. I cabled this home to the practitioner, denying the error myself. Later in the day the doctor told me it was quite impossible for the child to be born without an operation, and even then he feared it could not be born alive. He was only waiting for the instruments to arrive. There were none in the station. I denied the necessity of the operation and tried to realize the truth. Within two hours the child was born without any operation, and is now strong and healthy.
