The statement as it was given out by the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science is sufficient to explain her position, and in connection with the article published in the Sentinel of June 13, to dispose of the statements to which she alludes; but it still remains a mystery why reputable magazines and newspapers open their columns to writers who, seemingly for the purpose of belittling Mrs. Eddy and her work, allege that this, that, or the other person was the Discoverer of Christian Science.
Some of these writers, even now, offer in proof of their assertions time-worn and disproved absurdities which have subserved an unworthy purpose for many years; others seem content to make bald asseverations without any attempt at justification, and this despite the fact that encyclopædias and biographies unite in awarding Mrs. Eddy her rightful place in the world's affairs,—the only place she claims,—that of Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and the author of its text-book.
By far the greater portion of Mrs. Eddy's long life has been spent within her native state of New Hampshire; and her present home, where she has resided for a number of years, is within sight of her birthplace. Her friends and neighbors, who have known her in both her earlier and later years, have borne testimony to her intellectual and spiritual capacity for the position to which she has been called.
