Testimonies of Healing

I desire to express openly my gratitude to God and to...

From the August 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I desire to express openly my gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy, the Discoverer of this great truth, for all the benefits received by me and mine through Christian Science. I am ashamed for having withheld my testimony so long, when I consider the many blessings that have been heaped upon us through the realization and understanding of the ever-presence and omnipotence of divine Love as revealed to this age in our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

Christian Science was first brought to my attention about eight years ago, at which time my wife was immediately cured of two very severe ailments, one of which had been pronounced incurable by some of the leading physicians of Chicago, and also by a very noted physician of Hamilton, Out., whom we had consulted. With my consent my wife saw a Christian Science practitioner one day in reference to another ailment that was then troubling her, and during the interview the practitioner asked her if she had any other troubles which she wished to be relieved of. She at once mentioned the two for which she had been doctoring under materia medica for several years, never expecting, however, that she could be benefited in any way, as the physicians had given her, she supposed, all the relief possible in that direction. The next day, however, immediately following the first treatment in Christian Science, both ailments had completely disappeared, and neither of them has presented itself or given her the slightest trouble since, although nearly eight years have passed since the healing took place.

Shortly after this, my wife was also cured of astigmatism, having worn glasses for over three years. She spoke to her practitioner about wishing to give up her glasses, and the next day she left them off entirely and has not had any further' use for them. A few days afterwards she discovered that her sight was, better than it had ever been before, as she was able to see and do certain kinds of work at night without glasses, which, prior to that date, she did with considerable difficulty during the day time, and with the use of her glasses. Six months after receiving her first treatment, my wife gave birth to our second child. The first child had been delivered under medical treatment, and the suffering which my wife underwent at the time is beyond description; furthermore she was compelled to remain in bed for eight weeks before the doctor and nurse would allow her to get up. and when she did she was obliged to wear a rubber stocking for two and one half years when Christian Science relieved her in one treatment of any further necessity for it. Our second child was born under Christian Science treatment, and the whole experience was practically painless as compared with the agonies of the first. The next day my wife was up and dressed, and from that time on was about the house, taking her meals with the rest of the family and partaking of everything she desired.
