Testimonies of Healing

I am indeed grateful to God, and to our beloved Leader,...

From the March 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am indeed grateful to God, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for Christian Science and what it has done for me. I was healed twelve years ago of chronic liver complaint, having been subject to spells of bilious fever for the most of my life, and not being able to gain any permanent relief through drugs. I was healed by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I have since overcome many ailments of the flesh through reading the literature of Christian Science. Among these ailments were a serious lung trouble and a supposedly inherited stomach trouble; I was also cured of a tendency to the use of strong drink, which had been prescribed by materia medica as a remedy for the lung affection, but which I found in the end to be worse than the disease. But the greatest thing of all is that Christian Science has completely revolutionized my life and my beliefs concerning God, man, and the universe. . I was reared in an orthodox church, but left it early in life, wandering, seeking for something that would satisfy. I had lost all hope of ever finding it in the Bible, as I did not then understand its teachings and had no hesitancy in saying so; but as I read Science and Health I saw that it taught and explained the truth about God, that He could be loved and adored; and when I had seen further, through physical healing, that God's fatherhood and motherhood could be proven here and now, I exclaimed, "Eureka!" I decided to join the local Christian Science church as soon as possible, and I did; I also joined The Mother Church later. I have been helped in many ways by this great truth, Christian Science,—in business, in the problems of daily life, etc.

How can we ever show our thankfulness to Mrs. Eddy for this great revelation, except by following her example of love and self-sacrifice? I have been long in making this acknowledgment of what I owe to Christian Science, but I know it is never too late to render "honor to whom honor is due."—
