With a grateful heart I wish to testify to the many benefits which we have received through Christian Science. Many years ago my wife was taken ill with a paralytic trouble and could not walk. We had many physicians, each one giving her disease a different name, but no one could help her. Finally we were advised to try a change of climate to lengthen her life, so we left Michigan and came to Los Angeles, Cal. At first it seemed as if she was better, except for the paralytic trouble, then she was attacked by another disease, so that she was obliged to remain in bed for over six years. We had several doctors, but no one could relieve her suffering, indeed her condition grew worse.
Several times we were advised to try Christian Science, but we were members of another church and had been warned against Christian Science. When there seemed to be no way out of trouble for her, and no medicine could even relieve her, she asked us to call a Christian Science practitioner. We were not acquainted with any Christian Scientists, but my daughter went to one of whom we heard. The Scientist came and gave my wife treatment, and to the surprise of all in five weeks she was out of bed and began to do her housework, although she had been ill for twenty-four years and the last six years could not leave her bed.
Nine years have passed since my wife was healed, and she has been free during these years. Through her healing Science and Health and "Miscellaneous Writings" came into our home. I read the text-book, and though I could not understand it, and criticised what I read, yet I found so much truth in the book that I could not let it alone. One day I was busy in a windmill. I was about to go down when suddenly the wind changed, the wheel was brought into swift motion, and I was thrown over the platform. I lay there, unable to move, until help came and I was carried into the house. A physician was called, and I was well cared for by him and by my family. I, however, grew worse; I could not turn on either side, could not even raise my hand, and had to be fed and cared for like a child.
