Testimonies of Healing

Feeling to-day as I do, with a heart filled with gratitude...

From the May 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Feeling to-day as I do, with a heart filled with gratitude for the very great and wonderful truths gained through Christian Science, I wish to tell of the benefits that have come to me both physically, and spiritually. For eight years I was sorely afflicted with a chronic form of rheumatic trouble. The disease was manifested in a terrible condition. I was, as I and others thought, very close to "the valley of the shadow of death." It is my firm conviction that I would not be here now. if this blessed truth, which the Scriptures contain for all humanity (interpreted by Mrs. Eddy, and given to the world in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"), had not come to deliver me. My affliction was believed to be hereditary, as only a short time before I sought Christian Science healing, a brother had passed away with the same ailment. We both manifested the same symptoms, and it was the general belief of the townspeople that I would soon follow him. I turned to God through the paths of Christian Science, only as a last resort. Material remedies had been employed all those eight years, but to no avail,—the truth was not in them to save,—and I continually grew worse, sinking lower and lower.

A Christian Science practitioner was then engaged, and I sought in the Bible and the Christian Science text-book for the truth which would deliver me. I strove to enter into the understanding that a loving Father-Mother God had created man in His own image and likeness,—perfect, harmonious, immortal,—not subject to the false beliefs of the flesh,—sin and disease. From out of these erroneous beliefs I arose gradually but steadily. After eight months I was perfectly well, without a single bodily pain or ailment. The joy of realizing God's ever-presence, and the proof that He is ever with men to guide and save from sickness and sin, has raised me from the depths, both physically and spiritually. To bring forth the fruits of Love—the destruction of sin, sickness, and death—is my constant aim and desire. Our gratitude must be expressed in "good works." That the world may know more of divine Truth, God, and thereby the evils and ills which beset us may be dispelled, is my prayer.
