I was healed in Christian Science, three years ago, of brain fever. About ten years ago my sister, three years older than I, a teacher in the public schools, died of this disease, after suffering terribly for six weeks. Our family physician, formerly one of the instructors in Hahnemann Medical College and a very high-minded man, worked faithfully for the recovery of my sister. Afterwards, he took me aside, and told me I would go the same way if I were not very careful. From a hereditary standpoint I had not a very good start, my father having died of lung trouble before I was born; so with this sentence hanging over me I tried in succession, medicine, physical culture, dieting, climate, osteopathy, sanitarium treatment, including electricity, hydropathy, etc. Finally, six years ago, I came into Christian Science, and was healed of catarrhal and stomach trouble.
Three years after coming into Christian Science I was taken down with brain fever while far away from home and from any available Christian Science practitioner. I was in a hospital, delirious with the fever, but constantly calling for a Christian Science practitioner. I was, however, away down South, in a small town where Christian Science seemed to be unknown. They finally telegraphed my mother, and she came immediately, or rather started, as it was a long journey. I had been unconscious five days, and when my mother first saw me she was nearly heartbroken, for I looked worse than my sister; but she went back to her hotel, and with superhuman strength—for it was divinely bestowed—she rose to the occasion and gave me a Christian Science treatment, realizing that man is God's child, and with the 91st Psalm as her guaranty that no evil could befall me. I regained consciousness at once, soon had a ravenous appetite, and the second day afterwards we went home, a two-days journey by rail. A Christian Science practitioner helped to complete the demonstration, besides treating us during the trip, and in a week or two I had recovered my strength and was entirely well.
My mother's gratitude for Christian Science can be imagined; and I, too, am grateful to God, to Jesus the Wayshower, and to that best of women, our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her blessed book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."—Denver, Col.
