Testimonies of Healing

The wonderful blessings that have come to me through...

From the May 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The wonderful blessings that have come to me through Christian Science, since my first acquaintance with it ten months ago, make each day one of thanksgiving. For three years my health was most wretched, having suffered with stomach, bowel, and heart trouble,—indeed, it seemed to me, all the ills of the flesh,—when on the 7th of July, 1907, I was stricken with my third attack of severe illness. All that medical treatment could do was done for me; if the kindness and watchful care of physicians and medical attendants could have healed me, I certainly would not have suffered long, and for all their kindness I feel the most profound gratitude. I had heard of Christian Science, but very erroneously, and did not care to investigate it. Not until all else failed me and death seemed very near would I consent to try it, but when I knew there was nothing left in materia medica, I turned to its healing stream like a tired child to its mother's arms.

Only those who in utter despair have come to the verge of the grave, and then have experienced the wonderful healing power of Truth, can appreciate just how I feel. I had absent treatment for the most part, and while my healing was seemingly slow, yet it has been most complete. From being a skeleton of ninety-eight pounds I have reached a weight of one hundred and fifty-two; but the greatest blessing of all is, that I have learned where and how to find God. All my life I had had such an earnest desire to know and love Him, and to some extent I did, but there seemed to be many things which I could not understand. I always tried to know He was Love, but when I used to suffer so long and so much, I would think that if He was Love and bore such tender relationship to His children, I could not see why He did not heal me. Happily I have now learned that we only have to understand and respond to divine Love, and we are healed.

When I think, now, of what has been done for me, my gratitude to God, and to His messenger, Mrs. Eddy, who has given this wondrous truth to the world in our day, can only be expressed in reverent silence and an earnest desire to have my life more consecrated to the Cause of Truth. While my spiritual progress sometimes seems slow, yet I am patiently waiting to know His kingdom come, His will done. —
