Two years ago I was a very unhappy woman. For fifteen years I had known little but sickness and death,—long and terrible suffering for those I loved best, and some taking away so sudden and fearful that the old belief that it was all God's will and doing sorely taxed one's faith in a loving Father. I could see nothing before me but a continuance of those conditions, when Christian Science broke the gloom and so flooded every crevice with divine light that I have been transformed,—made over into a new woman, as it were. Truth has lifted every burden. I can now know our Father as tender and true and loving, not stern and terrible.
My husband, whom I had expected to be taken from me at any moment with organic heart disease of more than twenty years' standing, is now well. My little girl, whose lungs were thought to be in a hopeless condition, is also well, strong, and free. My son, who had worn glasses seven years for a condition of the eyes which caused severe headaches, and who was subject to frequent attacks of stomach difficulty, has been entirely healed. He laid aside his glasses after the first treatment in Christian Science and has had no occasion to wear them since. Aside from this, violent headaches, with which I had suffered from childhood, lasting for two weeks sometimes, and many times in a slow, dull way for as long as a month, have been quite overcome. In my family, Christian Science has cured within the last six months lung trouble and many minor ills, as well as the results of accidents. Like Christian in "Pilgrim's Progress," I at last reached the cross and my burden was dropped, leaving me free to go the rest of the way rejoicing.
For Mrs. Eddy my reverence and affection are too great to be voiced. Actions speak louder than words, and I shall endeavor to live up to the standard which though high is surely attainable.
