Testimonies of Healing

From the March 1910 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About twelve years ago Christian Science found me a hopeless sufferer, mentally as well as physically. After having been treated by many physicians, I spent the better part of two years in one of the best sanitariums in the state of California, where I tried every remedy known to the doctors and had every attention that human skill could devise. I shall never forget the kind efforts of those in charge, to relieve my suffering, and their words of encouragement even after they could do no more for me. My husband then brought me back to our home in Washington, where Christian Science was brought to my notice by one who had been wonderfully healed after materia medica had failed, and who, seeing my great need, talked freely to me, and later on asked a friend (who was a practitioner) to call on me. The Scientist did so, and talked to me with a calm and sweet assurance of God's power to heal, and said that He is no respecter of persons. Before she left I asked for treatment, and I was made well and happy in one week. I cannot even express how grateful I was for relief from suffering, but how much more the spiritual uplifting meant to me! I felt—nay, I knew— there is a God who heals all our diseases.

When my husband saw the great change that had come over me, he. too, commenced to read Science and Health, and through the study of that blessed book we both learned to read and love the Bible. We had not known God before, nor how to find Him, until we were shown through the study of our text-book; and many are the proofs of His loving care which we have had since then. A few months ago a great sorrow came to our home, and with the added trials and sorrows of loved ones, I was almost overwhelmed. I became weak, and could hardly move about. I asked for help in Christian Science, and was again lifted from the depths of despair and given that peace of God which passes all understanding. My work and responsibilities have been quite heavy since then, but I have been given health and strength beyond any tiling I had ever hoped to experience.

For all these, and numerous other blessings, I am truly grateful to God, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has helped us to understand Him.
