Testimonies of Healing

While I am not a student of Christian Science, I can...

From the March 1910 issue of The Christian Science Journal

While I am not a student of Christian Science, I can bear grateful testimony to its healing power. When our little daughter was six months old she was taken very ill with what the physician pronounced an acute attack of spinal disease and a stomach complication. She grew worse and worse, until 1 urged my husband to try Christian Science. My father is a student of this Science, and he had advised us to try it, but my husband had no faith in it and would not consent until finally the nurse said to him, "Let your wife have her way, and give her that much satisfaction, for nothing more can be done." The physician was informed of the decision, and he said that if we took the medicine away from the child, she could not live more than five hours.

The Christian Science practitioner was telephoned in, but before she could leave her office my mother called her again and said that it was of no use to come, that the child was dying. The practitioner replied that we should not give up, that she would treat her at once and would come very soon. There was a slight improvement almost immediately, but when the practitioner arrived everything was in confusion. My husband, who had been helping to nurse the child day and night, was worn out, and both of us were almost distracted with grief; but within an hour every one had left the house but my mother, my husband was asleep, and my mother and I were talking quietly together.

About twenty-four hours after the treatment began, the nurse came in, and in lifting the little one put her hand under her head. Finding it wet with perspiration, she said, "Oh, how hard we tried to accomplish this!" The treatment was continued for about six weeks, the child gaining right along. At the end of that time she seemed all right, and we discontinued the treatment. A little later we noticed that she seemed to have no use of her legs. The treatment was resumed, and that difficulty was overcome entirely. She was perfectly healed, and today, at three years of age. she is a picture of health, sturdy and robust.
