Testimonies of Healing

For a number of years my wife had been suffering from...

From the September 1910 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For a number of years my wife had been suffering from a complication of diseases, and physicians had never been able to afford her more than temporary relief. By the advice of friends I decided to investigate Christian Science, in the hope of ('finding therein some relief for her ailments. I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in order to get some idea of the fundamentals of the Science before recommending it to my wife, and I had not read the book half through when I realized that I had found the truth. I applied to a practitioner, and she called upon my wife, who was then at a hospital. At first my wife refused to take treatment from the practitioner, believing that Christian Science could not possibly succeed where materia medica had so repeatedly failed; but she finally consented to return home and take treatment. The treatment was not, however, effective till she consented to stop the use of drugs; then her condition steadily improved, and she now is able to attend to all her household duties and looks better than she has done in years.

I had sought the aid of Christian Science for my wife's benefit, without thought of its application to myself, but in the fall of 1908 I began to study it in earnest, convinced that it contained a complete statement of the truth of being. I resolved, with divine help, to conform my thoughts and acts to its requirements, and I immediately received benefits. I had worn a truss for double hernia for thirty-five years, and for eight years had worn spectacles for an affection of the eyes. I discarded both of these material aids; and though at first there was a strong sense of pain and discomfort, this soon disappeared. In my occupation as a metal worker I have to handle heavy objects and move quickly, but I suffer no inconvenience and the hernia has completely disappeared. Before the demonstration over imperfect sight I had to use a powerful eye-glass to read my drawings, but I now read them without artificial aid. I also have been able to overcome the tobacco habit, to which I had been addicted for many years.

Words fail to express my deep sense of gratitude to God, and to His messenger to this age, Mrs. Eddy. While the physical benefits we have received are above all estimation, much greater is the light that has come into our lives, making all things new.
