I feel it a duty as well as a privilege to tell what Christian Science has done for me. Until a short time ago the only feeling I had toward it was prejudice, born of ignorance, as I knew nothing about its teachings. In October, 1908, a peculiar malady came upon me—something which I hoped in time to be able to throw off; but time only proved my inability to do so, and I called a physician. He did not seem to think my condition serious, but said he would make a careful examination, by which he could readily decide what was the matter. My condition soon became serious, however, and then it was that I turned to Christian Science.
Through the kindness of my sister, who is a Christian Scientist, my case was given to a practitioner, and I was at once relieved; but after a short respite the symptoms returned, and it was then decided to call a physician and have an examination in order to determine what was the matter. I was disappointed and discouraged, as this was just what I was seeking to avoid and had turned to Christian Science for that purpose. Like Naaman of old. I wanted to he healed in my own way, but I had to learn that "God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform."
I said to myself that I would not submit to an examination, and my faith in Christian Science waned. But one day in the early part of March, 1909, my condition became alarming, and although I was again relieved by the Christian Science practitioner, I said I was ready for the examination, which was made the following day, and I was told that I had a disease before which the whole world stands aghast. The physician pronounced my death-sentence— for materia medica could offer no cure for this disease. But the power of God through Christian Science was with me. and when the doctor pronounced the word it meant nothing to me, and as soon as he left the room I told my sister to go at once to the practitioner and tell her the result of the examination: also to tell her that I was going to be well. She did as I requested; and in less than a week I arose from my bed, dressed myself, walked unaided to the street, and have been entirely well ever since.
