When Christian Science was presented to my notice it seemed to promise the fulfilment of the words of Jesus, "Nothing shall by any means hurt you." At that time, now nearly eight years ago, I was not in immediate need of physical healing, though not altogether robust, as from early childhood I was never very strong and caused my parents much care and anxiety. After I grew up, a form of neuralgia became my more or less frequent companion, and although everything was tried for me that love and medical skill could suggest,—my father being a doctor,— still the trouble was never entirely overcome. After studying the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," for some time, I began to see that this state of affairs was wholly unnecessary and could be completely rectified. Without any special treatment, but simply through the study and application of the teaching contained in the Bible and in Science and Health, my health steadily improved, and for more than seven years I have not spent a day in bed on account of illness of any kind, nor have I used drugs, dieting, or other form of medical treatment. Any ailment which has presented itself has been speedily overcome by the understanding of the ever-presence of God, who is infinite good.
Although I am deeply grateful for the physical benefits that have come to me through Christian Science, I am still more thankful for the spiritual blessings. Our text-book is to me a veritable "Key to the Scriptures," for it unlocks the treasures of Truth contained in the Bible, revealing the one infinite God, who is divine Principle, Love, and it has thereby given me a religion which is both rational and practical. The understanding of God as Mind and of man as His idea, inseparable from God, gives one a sense of protection, of peace, and of power that nothing else can give and that nothing can take away; and thus it is that Jesus' words are being fulfilled in my experience: "Nothing shall by any means hurt you."
All my life I had been a student of the Bible, but until I read Science and Health I did not find "the footsteps of Truth, the way to health and holiness" (p. 241). This discovery has brought me so much joy and happiness that words fail to express my gratitude to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the purity of thought that enabled her to apprehend Truth, and for the unselfish love by which she gave it to the world in such a form that all who will may learn and practise Christian healing
