With love and gratitude I testify that Christian Science has been a never-failing inspiration since its entrance into my life. It has taught me to look beyond material things into reality. Once the Bible was to me a mere story-book, but through the study of our text-book, Science and Health it has become an ever-helpful and indispensable friend. I have been lifted out of many perplexing problems by this truth, when it has been applied understanding.
Before coming into Christian Science I had a vague sense of the meaning of blessings,—a sense so laden with material interpretations and blinding ingratitude that my situation was anything but a happy one. Through the study of the Bible and our text-book I have been enabled to overcome many mental as well as physical disorders. Depression and fear were besetting sins and were due to ignorance of God, who is indeed Love. I have been perfectly healed of neuralgia, supposedly hereditary, and from which I suffered many years. I had been told that it would finally attack the heart' and prove fatal, and I was in constant dread of this verdict; but it was set aside, like many other mortal opinions, and an opportunity given me to prove what a great blessing is in store for those who rely on God.
The awakening through earnest study has uncovered doubts and fears and given me a remedy for them. I am now learning the meaning of those powerful words of our Leader, "Trust in Truth, and have no other trusts" (Sentinel, July 4, 1903). and I see that it is a daily obligation to be in accord with them, or else we are not obedient to the teachings given us through that brave woman. I cannot close without voicing my heartfelt thanks to the Publishing Society and the many dear contributors to the Journal and Sentinel.—Portland, Ore.
