It is with a heart full of love and gratitude to God for Christian Science, and with the hope that it will help some one, that I send this testimony. I was healed of a chronic bowel disorder of seven years' standing, for which I had tried everything and had been under many doctors, my father being a physician. Things seemed to get worse, however, instead of better, but the condition was overcome in twelve hours through reading our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Nervous exhaustion of three years' standing was also overcome in about two months, although at the time I commenced the study of Christian Science I could not sit still five minutes. I had tried medicine, baths, electricity, change of climate, and my father had become convinced that medicine would not do me any good. I was getting worse, but the reading of Science and Health overcame the condition in about two months and it vanished into its native nothingness.
I was also healed of an abscess of the ear. I was under the doctor's care in Louisville, Ky., for about a year, and the condition seemed to be met, but within a year from that time the ear commenced to discharge again. I went back to the physician, but he said he could not do anything for me, and that I must be careful not to get the other ear in the same condition. My father had me come on to Chicago where he was, and he took me to one of the best specialists here, but he also said that there was nothing they could do. I could hear very little from that ear, and there was a constant discharge; but after reading our text-book the discharge stopped in about two months, and in about four months my hearing was restored.
I am very grateful for the healing, but much more grateful for the spiritual understanding that has come to me through the reading of the Bible and Science and Health. I have since had the great pleasure of class instruction from one of our dear Leader's students. I am very thankful to God, and grateful to our beloved Leader, who has led us out of the "seeming darkness into God's eternal light.— Evanston, III.
