Testimonies of Healing

I first became interested in Christian Science...

From the September 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I first became interested in Christian Science through my instantaneous healing from appendicitis. Later, an unusually severe cold on my lungs was entirely cleared away after two treatments from the same practitioner. During this time I had read but three or four chapters of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," thinking I could be healed and continue to think about God and man as I had done up to that time. In my own church I had always been an ardent worker, but I have since learned that a better understanding of Christ's teachings is needed.

About five years ago an abnormal growth developed, and the immediate use of the knife was advised by physicians. It would have been a very serious operation and I could not submit to it. Instead, I again relied upon the power of God, and received treatment from another Christian Science practitioner. This healing was very different from my first experience, though the first certainly gave me hope and caused me to persevere with Science; but this time I had to learn how to pray aright.

It seemed almost impossible to remove the old concepts of theology, so firmly were they rooted in me; but I was led step by step in the most kind and patient way, and I began to improve in every respect except that to mortal sense the growth did not disappear. Words fail to express my gratitude for all I then learned of what foundation work in Christian Science means, and for the numberless times I was helped. I finally ceased treatment, thinking that it remained for me to work out my-own salvation. For nearly a year I could not have asked for better health; I had been enabled to perform duties and work such as I had never before been able to undertake, and not an obstacle arose that was not overcome by divine Love.
