Testimonies of Healing

It is a heart filled with gratitude...

From the September 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is a heart filled with gratitude which leads me to acknowledge through the medium of the Journal the great blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. For fifteen years I was broken down in health, not knowing what it was to feel well for a single day. I suffered terribly from headaches, often being confined to bed for days at a time, and was a martyr to a throat affection. I was unable for years to lead any kind of an active life, as the slightest exertion would exhaust me. I tried one doctor after another, and took the remedies prescribed, also traveled from one place to another, thinking that a change of climate would benefit me; but any benefit which I received was, as a rule, of short duration.

Some four years ago, when everything seemed to fail me and I was confined to bed with no prospect of getting any help, I was asked by a sister who had taken up Christian Science, if I would give it a trial. It has been truly said that "man's extremity is God's opportunity," so I readily consented, and a practitioner was called. After some three treatments a severe attack of throat trouble was healed; after a week's treatment and the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I was able to be up and around; while in less than ten days I took a nine-mile walk without feeling any sense of fatigue, something I had been unable to do for years. I also discarded glasses, which had been prescribed by an eye specialist in order to relieve my headaches, and I have never used them since.

From a physical, mental, and financial wreck I have been lifted, by the application of Christian Science, to a place in the world I had never hoped for before coming into this wonderful truth, "where fetters fall and the rights of man are fully known and acknowledged" (Science, and Health, p. 227). Words fail me to express adequately my gratitude to God for what this beautiful teaching has done for me and for my loved ones. My daily prayer is that I may become a true doer and liver of Christian Science.—
