About ten years ago an oculist told me that I would have to wear rest glasses because my eyes had been strained by too constant reading, so for a period of two years I wore them whenever I read. Then my eyes seemed improved and I wore the glasses only occasionally, but in the autumn of 1913 the trouble became serious. I was compelled to use my eyes constantly in my work and did not know what it meant to be without a headache. As a result of this I was always fatigued. My eyes were reexamined by a reputable oculist, and I wore the glasses which he prescribed. When I did not seem to improve, he told me that, the trouble was nervousness, and I began to take the tonic he advised. lie was very kind and gave me every attention, but there was no improvement in my condition. Finally he said that when one reached the point I had, it was almost impossible to relieve the pain; it might be overcome, but that it would be a long time.
Then I heard some disparaging remarks about Christian Science, and although I knew nothing about it, I could not believe they were true. Merely with a desire to gain information about the teaching. I made some inquiries. I had no thought of being healed, because I had no conception of what Christian Science was accomplishing in the way of physical healing. A Christian Scientist very kindly told me of his healing and explained to me that man is not bound by so–called material laws, but has dominion over all things, since he is the image and likeness of God, who is All power power. As soon as I learned what had been done for others, I felt sure that I could be healed, so after receiving some further explanation about the Christ, Truth, I asked what I should do. I was told that the first thing was to remove my glasses. I felt that it was impossible to do without them, but decided that this was the only way to give Christian Science a fair trial, so I removed them, and instantly all pain vanished. Before this I had not been able to read a word without great discomfort; but I was able to read for some time without the least pain. The next day I used my eyes much more than usual, bill there was no return of the trouble, and I have had no need for glasses since.
Christian Science is daily meeting all my needs whenever it is faithfully and honestly applied. I was not, at all satisfied with my religions views and had doubted parts of the Bible, as they seemed so incomprehensible, but all these doubts have vanished as the mist before the sun. While very thankful for the physical healings, I am much more grateful for the peace and true happiness which have come into my life. I am thankful to God for all these blessings and that He gave to Mrs. Eddy the understanding and ability to explain this great truth to us. I wish also to express my gratitude for the Christian Science literature.—Cambridge City, Ind.
