I want to give testimony of the wonderful healing which I have received through Christian Science. In September, 1914, I was taken down with what the doctors termed Bright's disease and acute rheumatism. I had been in very poor health for about six years previous to this attack, and had been treated by four doctors in Fort Worth, Texas, but got no permanent, relief. I came to Kansas City, Missouri, in December, 1913, and the following September became unable to walk. Within a week I lost the use of my legs entirely, and within ten days more the use of my hands and arms, so that I was as helpless as a babe and had to be fed.
Three doctors attended me during the first fifteen days. The first paid one visit only, and advised my sister to send me to the hospital, as there was no hope for my recovery; but instead another doctor was called. For about ten days this physician tried faithfully to help me, coming to see me every day; but from appearances I was growing worse all the time, and he told the druggist who filled the prescriptions that I could not last more than two weeks. He finally advised my removal to the hospital, saying I had gotten beyond the reach of medicine and there was no use of his coming to see me any more. He had been giving me an opiate to relieve the severe pain and to allow me to get sleep, and leaving me some of the pellets he gave up the case.
After this the third doctor was called. He was very thorough in the examination, using three days' time, and reported that I was beyond the help of medicine and that no other than the power of God could cure my trouble. He was asked if he meant Christian Science, and replied that it was included. My sister "told me what the doctor had said and asked if I wanted her to call a Christian Science practitioner, as one of her friends had told her of some wonderful cures that she had known to be effected through Christian Science, even after the doctors had given up all hope of recovery. I felt that I had no choice and very little chance in the world, for I knew nothing of the teachings of Christian Science. A lady in Fort Worth had asked me to try it and had given me a book to read, but I did not have interest enough to read it: now, however, when all else had failed, I asked to have a practitioner called.
