Early in the year 1906 a friend told me he was studying the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I immediately began to condemn this religion, or my own very hazy concept of it, informing him that it could not be the truth. At that time I had not even read the book, so of course I was not qualified to discuss the subject, let alone pass judgment on it. Shortly after this conversation my friend contracted a severe form of throat trouble and was healed through the help of a Christian Science practitioner, in three days. This caused me to make inquiries about Christian Science, to find out whether it was indeed the truth. Subsequently the textbook was lent to me, and as I read it I became convinced that it contained the vital teachings of Christianity, which I had been longing to know more about all my life.
As a child I was baptized a member of an established church, but in later years I frequently attended the services of other Protestant denominations. as I was seeking for truth. This truth I found in Christian Science. I have since proved over and over again the accuracy of Jesus' statement, "If ye continue in my word, . . . ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The knowledge of this wonderful truth has kept me in such good health that I have not been away from my office, through illness, during the past twelve years. My daughter, who was born in 1906, has never tasted medicine. She has been healed through the power of Truth of different physical ailments, including two severe attacks of bronchitis. Each of these attacks was overcome in about two days. Christian Science treatment enabled her to go through the teething stage without any pain or discomfort whatever. She had a birthmark under one of her eyes which resembled a skin disease, the skin continually peeling off in thin flakes. A friend gave her treatment and at the end of a fortnight the trouble had entirely disappeared.
I am. of course, very grateful for these healings and the wonderful protection from physical complaints which I have experienced, but that for which I am most grateful is the better understanding of God which Christian Science has given to me, for it has brought great joy and peace into my life and enables me to look forward with confidence and assurance to a greater unfoldment of God's goodness and love, including the brotherhood of man. I am deeply grateful to Christ Jesus, the way shower, also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for having discovered the Christ way and made it known to the world. I am grateful, too, for our literature and for the great privilege of having received class instruction.— Dublin, Ireland.
