I first heard of Christian Science about thirty years ago, and nineteen years ago, when in California, I met a lady who told me about a wonderful healing she had experienced as a result of reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I became interested enough to buy a copy of the book and tried to read it, but could not get much out of it; however, I did not try very hard, as I thought I was well and happy. Soon afterwards I came East and left the book at my brother's home. In the years that followed I had three operations and was finally brought to a place where "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I was led to Christian Science again and this time I was ready for the truth. After my first visit to a practitioner, in the fall of 1914, I commenced to improve, and in six weeks had regained normal weight. My healing in a way was slow, but that made me work all the harder to overcome the discords, such as stomach, bowel, and nasal catarrhal conditions. These faded into their native nothingness as I found that resentment is not a quality of God, good, and that God is Love. About two years ago I was able to give up glasses, which I had used for twenty-three years. Other ailments have been overcome also, including asthma, colds, headaches, and chapped hands.
I am very thankful for membership in The Mother Church and that I have had the experience of class instruction, which is a great help to me in demonstrating this blessed truth for myself and others. For the last four years the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, together with the Christian Science periodicals, have been my daily companions, and I have had great help and protection by reading and studying the Lesson-Sermon every morning before going to my business. I am very thankful for the physical healings, but more so for the spiritual uplift received through the understanding that God is Life, Truth, and Love. I am also grateful to our beloved Leader, who has put this truth in such a way that all the world can know it, for our Master said, "If ye continue in my word,... ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." My daily prayer is to know more of this truth through earnest study of Christian Science, which is the word of God to this age.—Woodstock, Vt.
